The brief story of how you met/fell in love:
We met in 2009 at a gym in Jersey City. Alyza was a personal trainer and I was assigned to her as a client. We worked out in the gym together for several months but did not begin dating until 3 years later. It was awesome to get to know someone on a friendship level and watch your relationship flourish into true love. After dating for a year, Alyza proposed on a helicopter flying over NYC. We are so in love and enjoying our journey together!
The destination wedding decision: something you’ve always wanted or came to love?
A destination wedding is something we both came to love. We initially wanted to have a rooftop wedding in the states. After talking to a friend that had a destination wedding, we decided to look into it. The more we learned from our Specialist, Sue Ryan, the more we fell in love with the idea and the amazing resorts she was showing us.
What made you choose your resort/destination?
We initially chose this resort because Sue raved about how amazing it was. She showed us photos and we fell in love with it. The fact that it was brand new interested us even more! There was also additional perks such as being able to use neighboring resorts that Generations was affiliated with. Once the wedding coordinator told us there was an option for a rooftop wedding, we were sold!
How did you personalize your wedding and ceremony?
We personalized our wedding by adding touches of our own style with decorations that we brought from home. Our cake topper said,”Mrs & Mrs” with an anchor to represent Alyza as she is a United States Sailor. We also added home made mason jars to go with our pink, tope, and cream color scheme. We had a candy bar, an instagram prop, and our guest book was a tree to signify our “family tree.” Many of the small details were created by our moms and us! The main theme was a Memorable Moments Collection named “Pure Glamour.”
The funniest or most memorable moment was when…
The funniest moment was when we began our first dance with Robin Thicke’s Lost Without You and mid-song the DJ switched it up and we broke out dancing crazy to Juvenile’s Back That Thang Up! We brought laughter to a serious moment!
Three words that sum up your destination wedding experience are:
Glamorous, Stress Free, and Refreshing!
Besides the wedding itself, what was your favorite part of your trip? Did you do any activities with your guests?
The day after the wedding we went on a “Booze Cruise” with our guest on a catamaran sail boat, which was phenomenal! We had such an amazing time! We also had an after party a few nights in our infinity balcony pool with our guests.
If you could travel anywhere for your one year anniversary, it would be to:
We would love to travel to Thailand or Fiji!
Your biggest piece of advice to couples planning a destination wedding would be:
Do it!! We promise you, it’s the best decision you will ever make. GayDestinationWeddings.com will set you up with a Specialist that will work to ensure your day is stress free and nothing is more valuable than enjoying every moment without worry. Also, when choosing a resort, be sure to look into every nook and cranny and consider your guest’s budget! Do not pick something that is not affordable, you want as many people to come celebrate your big day with you! Lastly, give your guests enough notice. We believe we had such a large turnout because we gave our guest over a year to plan and pay!
