The brief story of how you met/fell in love:
We both worked at the same hospital and met during Amanda’s month-long rotation of nightcall. Prior to then, I only knew her as the resident bouncing through the halls in a tie-dyed hoodie, and she knew me as the nurse with the cute butt! I paged her to the bedside of a crashing patient, where we managed to save a life working together through the rest of the shift. We made a great team that night and have continued to be partners in crime every day since!
The destination wedding decision: something you’ve always wanted or came to love?
We both have always known we wanted to get married on a beach. Destination weddings were always the way to go!
What made you choose your resort/destination?
The Hard Rock encompassed a combination of elegance and fun, i.e. the brochures were pretty and the reviews online mentioned open bars and those all important words: ALL INCLUSIVE. On an equally important note, multiple generations of family and friends were in attendance, and there were activities for everyone of every age.
How did you personalize your wedding and ceremony?
We had a hand in every detail of the ceremony and reception. Most importantly, we wrote our own vows. Our guests really responded to the heartfelt words, and most even cried! You could feel the love all around us that day.
The funniest or most memorable moment was when…
Funniest moment: The reception; a tie between one guest going crazy and spraying champagne everywhere, and getting every single guest out of their seats to dance to some of our favorite songs.
Most memorable moment: Having both sets of parents walk us down the aisle. Amanda’s mom raised her almost single-handedly, and my mom passed away this past November. The looks in both of their eyes made the sun just a little bit brighter that day.
Three words that sum up your destination wedding experience are:
Fun, crazy, unforgettable.
Besides the wedding itself, what was your favorite part of your trip? Did you do any activities with your guests?
We partied with our parents, guests, and the wedding party in the Hard Rock Hotel’s Club Heaven until 3am. Tons of club music, lots of drinks, swimming/dancing in the club’s pools in our clothes, and so much fun!
If you could travel anywhere for your one year anniversary, it would be to:
Italy, because we both have a familial tie there. We both find inspiration in the beauty of the art, food, and people. Italian culture is something we’ve both always wanted to experience.
Your biggest piece of advice to couples planning a destination wedding would be:
Plan as far ahead as you can. Your wedding planner can be your closest ally or a thorn in your side. Ask questions about everything, stay on top of the details. Phone calls, emails, use any means necessary!
